Delivery Day!!!!!!!
I got to the hospital at 5 am and went into my "delivery waiting room". They put the monitors on me, started my IV and did my catheter (have I ever mentioned how bad that procedure hurts?!?!?). I laid there waiting..... I got nauseous once and I still have no idea why. At 7 am the nurse came in to tell me that I was the next one to go (I was #3 out of 4) and explain the procedure to us (ok.......). They came in to get me around 730 am to take me to the OR to get my spinal and then would let Chris in and do the c-section. It took them almost 30 minutes to do my spinal! Now, me + big needle + my spine = tense. So, to keep me from tensing up the nurses were attempting a conversation with me. Of course, they start with the most frequent question - "Is this your first?" I said no and another nurse made the comment that this was my 7th. The first nurse responded with "Wow! You must be Catholic!" WTF? I simply replied "Why, yes I am!" (I was baptized Catholic and attended a Catholic church for the first 15 years of my life). So, 30 minutes, 2 anesthesiologists and 1 stupid comment later, I am finally laying on the table ready to go. But, wait.... I could still feel my feet. I racked my brain trying to remember if I could feel my feet with my last c-section. I couldn't remember. I saw the doctor walk towards me and say he was getting to start. No!!! I can still feel my feet! The anesthesiologist asked if I could feel where the doctor just cut. No... Wait, you can't cut yet! Where's Chris..... The nurse assures me that he is on his way in. The doctor says Now. I'm thinking to myself, "Oh God, what? What does now mean? Where's Chris? Hey, I can't feel my feet anymore. But, where's my husband?" Then I hear, "That's a big baby!" I hear him cry and then Chris appears. Chris tells me that the baby has my feet (I have really strange looking feet... Poor kid). I was also getting a tubal, so there was quite a bit of time I just laid there while they took care of that part. I remember the nurse bringing Connor over and asking us what name had we chosen. Chris told her Connor and she said "Say hello to Connor." That was one of the happiest moments of my life (and obviously I have had several!). He looked so sweet and adorable. I immediately noticed the cleft in the chin, just like Chris. Chris held him while I rubbed his little cheek. Then the nurse came to take him and Chris said it was because he was breathing heavy. They finished up my tubal and "put me back together". I don't remember much; I was going in and out.
They took me back to my "waiting room". Around 10 am the neonatologist came in and said that they were concerned about Connor's breathing and were putting him in the NICU. He assured me that it was just for observation and that he required no oxygen or such. Then it came time for Chris to leave and get back to the girls. I was left all alone. They finally moved me to my post-partum room. I asked about Connor and when I could see him. The nurse told me that if I could get up and stand up without feeling faint or light-headed, that she could wheel me down to the NICU right then. So, I did it. I got out of that bed, by myself and stood up alone. It hurt like hell, but I did it! I went to see my son.
When I got to the NICU, I did not see what I was told. My son was laying there in the bed with a nasal cannula and a GI tube. The nurse told me that the tube was to remove fluid from his stomach. He was also connected to an IV. I was told that he was also on antibiotics because they believed he got an infection from me (they rattled off a bunch of possible ones. The doctor did tell me on Thursday that I had another UTI starting and that was one they said it could be from). I sat in my wheel chair (still had my catheter) and touched his arm. This was one of the worst moments of my life. I went back to my room, feeling 110% miserable. My baby wouldn't be in there with me.

Looking Back -- October 10, 2007
Courtney and Cheyenne on October 14, 2007 when they were 4 days old.
I missed posting about the baby twins' 2nd birthday so I am sharing their birth story now. These were baby numbers 5 and 6 for us.
I had been having contractions since I was about 30 weeks. I began begging at 35 weeks to be induced and they kept refusing. I had a couple ultrasounds at maternal-fetal medicine and there was a difference in sizes, but not enough of one to warrant immediate induction. At 36.5 weeks, I finally convinced my doctor to induce me the following Wednesday. That put me at 37.5 weeks. I had made my preparations to go into the hospital that Wednesday morning -- packed my stuff, arranged for the sitter, etc. The Tuesday before, I was in the kitchen helping Tina finish up her science project when I felt a small trickle. I thought nothing of it because my water had to be broken with my last 2 pregnancies. I took a shower, got dressed and went to the bowling alley to watch Chris bowl. I had a trickle feeling all evening, but still kept quiet. As we were leaving the bowling alley, my water completely gushed out. I told Chris we needed to hurry and get my brother (the sitter) and get to the hospital. So, we picked him up, dropped him off with the other kids, and started going to the hospital. About halfway to the hospital, we got a flat tire. Luckily, we had some friends from the bowling alley that lived that way and they picked us up and carried us to the hospital. Once, upstairs they hooked me up to the machines and asked me if I wanted any pain medicine. I said no. They went and called the doctor and he said to wait and see where I progressed to alone. Prior to this, I had been dilated to 3 cm. I still was. So they monitored me overnight. On Wednesday morning, they went ahead and began inducement at my scheduled time since I had progressed no further. Later on in the morning, I asked for some pain medicine but no epidural. I slept off and on. Around 3 pm, the doctor came in and said since I had not progressed at all even with maximum inducement, that a c-section was the only option. I had been in full labor for 24 hours with no progression. Even though I didn't want a c-section, I really had no choice at this point. So, we agreed. They went ahead and prepped me and got me the epidural or whatever it is. I then went into the maternity OR for the c-section.
Cheyenne Elyzabeth was born at 4:06 pm weighing 7 lbs, 9 oz and was 20.2" long. Courtney Michelle was born at 4:07 pm weighing 5 lbs, 8 oz and was 19" long.
I had a rough time healing from the c-section. We went home when the twins were 4 days old. They had both dropped weight (Courtney even went below 5 lbs) and both were a tad jaundiced. By a week, they were back to birth weight or higher and the jaundice was gone.
Yes, Cheyenne was a chunky baby and she is still the biggest. In fact, she wears size 2T-3T while Courtney barely wears 12 months. They are still too loose on her waist, but she needs the length! LOL

A couple of pics that I fell in love with when they were little. They were about 4 months old in both of them.

Looking Back -- October 19 and 20, 2005
I began labor at 30 weeks. I had been hospitalized several times and been given steroids and magnesium. I had been having a rough time. Every time I went in for an appointment, they kept telling me to wait until my body was completely ready to labor. I was frustrated. I couldn't walk, sit or lay down I was in so much pain. I had already moved to sleeping on the sofa because I couldn't get myself on the bed! I had scheduled an appointment with another doctor hoping they could do something for me. I had gone to my regular doctor's office to have my file sent to the new doctor. Later that night my regular doctor called me and asked what was wrong. I flat out told her that I couldn't take the pain anymore, it was time for them to get out! And since she wasn't going to do anything, then I would find someone else who would. I was at the time 35 weeks, 6 days. She said to come in for an appointment the next day (October 19th) and we'd see what we could do. I went in and was still contracting and had dilated to 2 cm. Based on previous ultrasounds, the babies were good sized. The only thing they were worried about was their lungs. She admitted me to the hospital at noon. She agreed to induce me since I had the steroid shots weeks before. By 3 PM when she checked on me, I had not progressed much even with the inducement. She was going to break my water but wanted to wait until after her office closed so she could devote all her attention to me. The hospital had already called in extra staff since 2 women had given birth prior to me, and another had come in that was in labor. She broke my water around 6 PM. By 11 PM I had had enough and asked for an epidural. The anthesiologist (sp) came in and got the needle in my back and about the time I laid back down so they could start the dang thing I had gone from 4 cm - 10 cm! They never started it, but left it there in case of an emergency c-section. I had in the room with me: Chris, my doctor, my L&D nurse (who I had grown up with; she was like a sister to me), 2 nursery nurses, the OR nurse (they had the OR staff there in case of an emergency c-section), the anthesiologist, and sometime or another my mother showed up (uninvited but I was in pain and really didn't feel the need to argue at that moment). I began pushing and at 11:42 PM Baby A entered the world. She weighed 5 lbs, 12 oz and was 19.25" long. The doctor did a quick ultrasound to check Baby B's position. She was head down and ready (they also panicked a bit because after Baby A exited, Baby B moved and they lost her heartbeat for a few minutes). She broke Baby B's water, and I started pushing. Chris and my mom told me to push harder but I told them to shut up and they could push as hard as they wanted when they were the ones giving birth! Baby B was born at 12:02 am on October 20th! She weighed 6 lbs, 8.5 oz and was 19" long. They were both just as healthy as they could be. I even remember telling my doctor "Told you they would be fine." as she was stitching me from where Baby B's big head ripped me (I was fine with Caitlyn). LOL
Baby A was named Caitlyn Renee. Baby B was named Charlotte Alayna. Charlotte was in memory of my granddaddy, Charles and Alayna was in honor of our best friend who was killed in 2000, John Alan.
